For each room unit of apartment or condominium there usually are only one or two sides of the uinit expose to outside which ventilation and sun light can be applied. Which room, (bed room, toilet, kitchen, living room) should be stand expose to outside ? Very difficult to answer the question because it is the judgrment of architecture and marketing person. But there are some reasons to determine and keep in mind :

- the exposed side will lead sun light , ventilation and visibility.
- nature light can not be done by any equipment.
- ventilation can be done by equipment.
- living room and bed room require both ventilation and visibility.
- toilet and kitchen need ventilation but not visibility.

Then my recommendation is :

- bed room and living room should be exposed to outside
- for toilet and kitchen we use ventilation fan.

Why shouldn't stairs face to west ?

It might because of someone's moral perception. But if you don't believe that moral perception , you still not to place your stairs face to the sun set because in the evening the sun light would make you unable to see distinctly and might fall down the stairs.

Make It Easier For Yourself - Train Your Cat To Use The Toilet by Sarah Williams

Cleaning out a smelly litter box is not exactly the most appealing activity one can imagine. And the messy litter that sticks everywhere on the carpet, the room smelling like ... But have you ever thought of training your cat to use the toilet? Wouldn't it be a lot easier if you could just flush it down?

There are some questions which you should take into consideration before you decide to toilet train your cat. Cats are not able to flush the toilet simply because they are not heavy enough to manipulate the flushing mechanism. So, you will have to do it yourself. This means that the eliminations may sit in your toilet for a while. However, the smell of cat's poop is much less evident when submerged in water. If you have two separate bathrooms in your house, you could assign the less frequently used toilet to your cat so you don't feel embarrassed when you get visitors.

You can find many books and articles on cat toilet training but what works and what doesn't depends on your cat's personality and individual preferences. Young kittens cannot balance very well so you will need to wait until they are 5 to 6 months old at which age their musculoskeletal system and locomotion are more developed. On the other hand, a cat is never too old to be toilet-trained unless it suffers with a condition preventing it from jumping and balancing, such as arthritis.

Before you start training your cat to use the toilet, it should be trained to use the litter box and the family members should get used to keeping the bathroom open and toilet lid up!

Measure the widest diameter of your toilet and buy a metal bowl which will sit in it securely. You may need to make some adjustments. Do not buy anything from plastic; it is just not strong enough to support cat's weight and could bend and break. You will also need to buy some flushable litter at this stage so your cat has time to get accustomed to it.

Gradually move the litter box closer to the bathroom. Allow a few days for cat to get used to each new position. Once the box sits next to the toilet and your cat is used to it, you can start to raise it higher until it is leveled with the toilet. Make sure the box is stable and cannot flip over. At this point, you should place the metal bowl in the toilet. Wait a few days until the cat is comfortable using the litter box at this level.

Now is the time to make the transition from litter box to the bowl. Fill the bowl with the (flushable) litter the cat is used to and take the litter box away. Wait a week or two to give the cat time to feel comfortable with using the bowl.

Then gradually reduce the amount of litter in the bowl until there is no litter at all. Wait again until the cat is used to eliminate in the empty bowl. If the cat's feet are still resting in the bowl at this stage, you can fill it with water as cats don't like to get their feet wet. This should help the cat to learn balance on the seat. Wait again. Then cut off the bottom of the bowl so that all eliminations fall straight into the toilet water. Wait a few days and then take the bowl away. Voila, your cat is toilet trained.

Most cats can be successfully toilet trained. Some of them learn fast and can be trained in as little as 2-3 weeks, others may take 2 months or longer, but it is worth to be patient if your reward is saying good buy to smelly litter box forever.

When you look into your bathroom mirror, what do you see? Are your eyes drawn to a flaw? Do you check the depth of your wrinkles, see the flabbiness of your muscles, the little zit on your cheek, the imperfection of a tooth? That your hair is sticking up or that more of it is missing?

Next time you find yourself doing that, stop, take a step back, wink at yourself, and grin. Now see the bigger picture. Notice that your eyes are actually seeing. (Neat little miracle, isn't it?) See that you have marvelous control over your facial muscles and can turn a frown into a smile in a flash. Straighten your posture and smile more. Notice that you have all your parts, and that they're all working. Wiggle them around and smile even more.

Then notice that you have a mirror, hanging on a solid, decorated wall, and light to see by that illuminates at the flick of a switch, and a room to stand in, with a floor under your feet and a roof over your head.

Change the angle of your gaze and see the abundance of wealth surrounding you in that one, small room. You have magical tools to alter your appearance, fragrant soaps and shampoos, potions to ease your body's discomforts, items for dressing your wounds, each made from materials gathered from all over the globe and brought to you through the labor of thousands of workers. At the twist of a faucet, you have clean water in whatever temperature you desire, and towels to dry you. In this sheltered space, you have a toilet, and beside it soft tissue, and at a flush your body's waste is carried away.

Let yourself appreciate all the behind-the-scenes magic that allows you to enjoy the abundance in this one small room. Think of all the ideas, energy and effort behind the design, the research, testing, fabrication, packaging, marketing, and transport of each item it contains. You are living in the midst of the miraculous, right there in front of your bathroom mirror. All it took was a shift of perception to see it. And the one who is doing the seeing is a miracle, too--a miracle of sensory awareness, thought, emotion, cells and systems, movement, growth, and choice.

What's the point of this little exercise? It's simply to experience for yourself that a shift in perception is all it ever takes to see the miracles. The whole world is a magical mirror, reflecting back to you your choices of perception. You can concentrate on the flaws it reflects or choose to see its wonders, whether you're looking without or within.

Sometimes the flaws require our attention. Sometimes they lead us to inventing or applying new ideas that address a genuine need. It's when they hypnotize us into believing they are the center of our universe and that everything else revolves around them that they become stumbling blocks.

When you learn to step back from the flaws and see them in the greater context, you bring to them an understanding of their insignificance, relative to the whole. You can return to them with a greater objectivity and an expanded awareness of ways to address them and bring them into harmony with your ideals. And, amazingly, sometimes when you see them in a larger context, they simply cease to matter at all.

Remember the miracles the next time you look into your bathroom mirror. Carry that awareness with you into the remainder of your day, and you will find it opening all kinds of beneficial new perspectives. Remember that you can always choose to see a broader, deeper, more wondrous context--one in which the ultimate miracle is your ability to choose what you will see.

While the sunroom is typically built so that you can view the wonders of nature outside, there's no reason why you can't furnish the sunroom to reflect your personality and interests.

Before you can build your sunroom, there are a few questions you need to ask yourself. Most importantly, of course, is do your local zoning laws even allow you to build a sunroom?

Let's assume that the answer to that is yes. Next you'll have to decide on what kind of sunroom to have. Will you simply turn your current patio deck or back porch into a sunroom, or will you have a brand new addition put onto your house.

There are pros and cons for each, of course. If you build the sunroom onto an existing structure, the cost will not be quite as expensive as if you have to build an entirely new foundation for the room. However, the design for the room might be constrained.

If you do built it onto an existing structure - make sure that that structure can withstand the added weight! The last thing you want is for your new room to settle and crack due to structural flaws caused by an inadequate foundation.

There are several kinds of sunrooms, defined by the type of roof placed on each. The vaulted ceiling of the 'cathedral' type gives such an illusion of airiness and space that it is quite popular. The split-level 'California' type roof gives the room an exciting look. The distinctive curved-eave roof of the Solarium gives a better sight line to enjoy the stars at night, and the Conservatory, typically a smaller room then the others, also has that capability.

Sunrooms are so popular these days that people are using them for activities in which they have not traditionally been used before - such as the kitchen or the bathroom, the dining room and even the bedroom.

But even if you simply want to use your sunroom in the traditional way - as a place to get away from it all and view the great outdoors from the comfort of your own home - there is no reason why you can't decorate your sunroom to match your own individual tastes, from filling it full of growing flowers and plants to having an austere bare-to-the-bones look.

Advance Planning is Key

Have an idea of how you'll furnish the sunroom before you actually buy it. The contractor will be able to tell you exactly how much square feet you'll have, and you'll want to acquire furnishings that will set off and complement the new room. If you're planning on having a room full of plants you'll want to consult with the contractor about the qualities of the floor...if it's going to be used as a sauna then you'll have another set of questions to ask.

If you live in a climate that has an actual winter, you'll have to decide if you want your sunroom to be a 3-season sunroom, unused during the cold winter months, or if you want to be able to sit out there just as comfortably on the darkest winter night. Sunrooms aren't all designed to be useable for that cold season - so you'll want to make sure you purchase the proper high-grade materials designed especially for 4-season sunrooms if this is the case.

If you need to find an inexpensive way to improve the look of a room paneling may be the way to go. It may not be the most desirable solution, but if you have some damaged areas of your walls, it is a good option to hid them. All you need is the right tools and materials, and of course, a plan in mind.

The options other than paneling are usually dry walling, which is messy and time consuming, or tiling, which does not work in every room, or wall paper, which is not very easy to do properly unless you use self stick.

Paneling is a nice inexpensive option, but it may not be ideal fro every situation, and it also depends upon the kind of paneling you get. You may have to do just as much preparation work to install paneling, such as removing stains, mildew, paint and caulk, as you would have to for the other methods.

If you are just trying to repair lumps or holes in your walls, with the proper tools such as a scraper, plaster, a knife, spackle, clothe sandpaper and paint, you can probably fix the problem if it is on drywall, tiles or vinyl. There are those who choose paneling to avoid all of this work and are content to put the paneling over all of the cracks, holes, etc. If getting the job done quickly and cheaply is your only consideration, you can do it this way, but just remember that the problems will still be behind the paneling.

It is for this reason that paneling lowers the resale value of a home. Purchasers will not be confident about the materials used in the home. IN addition, lenders base mortgage and equity loans on the value, so your buyer may not get enough mortgage money, or you may not have enough equity to borrow on your home if you decide to.

Some rooms simply cannot do well with paneling, and others look just fine with it. Bathroom walls, for example, should be covered with tiles or paint. If you are recover int the walls in a bath, the best choice is tile, it is the best choice for both the walls and floors in baths since it is so durable. Tiles are one of the most long lasting materials outside of vinyl.

If you already have walls that are paneled, and there are some areas that have cracks or holes, you can consider just repairing instead of replacing the whole wall. You can repair paneled walls with little time, effort or cost.

There are so many different options when it comes to improving your home. Therefore, if you are improving your walls, you have to take many things into consideration such as the cost, the amount of work involved and the impact on the value of your home.

Consider installing storm windows if they are not already installed in your home. They are a more cost-effective option to replacing windows and are just as efficient. Insulate, Insulate, Insulate

Make sure the insulation in your attic is adequate. Not sure? Because insulation depends on where you live and involves the level of resistance to heat flow, ask the staff at a local home improvement center how much insulation is recommended where you live. Most houses need at least 12 inches of insulation. If you can see the ceiling joists, you know you don't have enough insulation as these are about 10 inches.

Insulate your attic door as well to prevent warm air from escaping. Seal any holes leading down into the house with spray foam, looking for open plumbing or electrical. Not only does the right amount of insulation keep your home warmer in the winter, it keeps it cooler in the summer also. Check the Roof

Ok, it's cold, but make a quick trip up to the roof if you can.

* Replace loose shingles or have a professional replace them. Damage sustained from snowstorms or rain that stains indoor ceilings from the roof is costlier and more difficult than replacing a few loose shingles in the first place.

* Trim any tree limbs that are hanging over or touching your roof. Storms can cause these limbs to fall and do a lot of damage to your roof.

* Clean drain gutters and keep downspouts pointed away from the house. Water from downspouts should be at least 10 feet away from the house.

* Clear your roof of debris to prevent a fire and to lessen the likelihood of damage when a storm comes. Check the Heating System

Replace the furnace filter at least once a year and check them monthly. A dirty filter not only reduces the efficiency of heating your home, it can also start a fire.

Invest in a setback thermostat. Keeping your home at the same warm temperature all day is more expensive. Get a thermostat that will regulate the temperature in your home, and set it cooler when you are gone. Cost of this type of thermostat is $30.

Keeping vents open and removing dust will make your heating system more efficient. Having all vents open will also make sure air is distributed evenly around the house. Fire Prevention

* Pick up smoke alarm and carbon monoxide detectors. Change the batteries often.

* Buy a fire extinguisher if you don't already have one. If you do have one, check the expiration date. Yes, they do expire.

* Use a fireplace screen when you are out of the room to prevent sparks from catching fire on the carpet or paper nearby.

* Keep paper, boxes, clothes, and other combustible material away from the furnace and leave the furnace room door open.

When you have finished winterizing your home, think about projects for spring. A new deck, a remodeled kitchen, and freshly painted rooms are all great springtime projects. Write down your expectations, a schedule of when particular steps of the project need to be completed by, supplies needed, and estimated costs of everything. Whether you elect to complete projects yourself or hire a knowledgeable contractor, have in mind what you want and set aside enough time to get the results you deserve.

As the snow finally falls on my neck of the woods and begins to lay a couple of inches, I'm enjoying the roaring fire inside. But, I don't have logs burning warmth or gas glowing heat. Those are things of the past. The ventless gel has proven itself to be the safe and cost efficient alternative.

Burning logs in your fireplace produces a great amount of heat, but it can lead to other problems. The venting has to be done right or you could end up smoking yourself out of the house. Smoke damage can be a costly repair. But, there is also the danger of sparks flying from burning logs. There are countless cases where burning logs have sparked and resulted in fire damage throughout the house. In worst cases, the house completely burned to the ground. Sometimes the simplest thing can cause a fire.

The gas fireplace has its setbacks as well. There's something about a tube that blows gas into a burning flame that sends signals to me. I've seen gas lines erupt. Fire spews in different directions creating a very dangerous situation. But, gas lines don't erupt often. It's the other problems that you have to worry about. The byproduct of a gas fireplace is carbon monoxide, a deadly gas that spreads throughout your house. All experts promise that the gas fireplace doesn't emit enough of the deadly gas to cause harm. But, it certainly makes me think.
